2018 NFL Buckeyes (Week 7)

The current Buckeyes embarrassing performance on Saturday night against Purdue must’ve really hurt a few of the alums in the NFL, because they had some rough days of their own on Sunday.

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 33 yards on 15 attempts in a 20-17 loss to Washington. The 33 rush yards are the second fewest he’s rushed for in a game in his three-year career. He also caught 2 passes for 9 yards.

Bradley Roby picked off a pass, broke up 4 more and made 2 tackles for the Denver Broncos in a 45-10 route of the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football.

Nate Ebner made one tackle on special teams for the New England Patriots in a dramatic 38-31 win over the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.

Malik Hooker made one tackle for the Indianapolis Colts in a 37-5 win over the Buffalo Bills.

Rookie Sam Hubbard made 2 total tackles for Cincinnati in a 45-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Cleveland Browns rookie cornerback Denzel Ward made 4 tackles, a tackle for loss, and broke up 2 passes in a 26-23 loss in their fourth overtime game of the season to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

New York Giants cornerback Eli Apple led the G-Men with 6 total tackles in a 23-20 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Apple was traded the day after the game to the New Orleans Saints for a 4th round pick.

Speaking of New Orleans, Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas caught 7 passes for 69 yards and a 5-yard touchdown in a 24-23 comeback win over the Baltimore Ravens. On the defensive side, Marshon Lattimore made 3 total tackles and broke up 2 passes, Vonn Bell registered 3 total tackles, and Kurt Coleman added 2 tackles to aid the victory.

Curtis Samuel scored his first career-rushing touchdown on a 14-yard carry to start the Carolina Panthers 17 point comeback against the Philadelphia Eagles. He also caught one pass for 16 yards in the 21-17 win over the defending Super Bowl Champions. Eagles Safety Malcolm Jenkins collected 7 total tackles and broke up 2 passes in the loss. Cameron Johnston punted 3 times for a total of 135 yards (45.0 yard average) and pinning one inside the 20-yard line.

New York Jets linebacker Darron Lee registered 2 tackles, one pass breakup and one hit on the QB in a 37-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Friday the Cleveland Browns traded running back Carlos Hyde to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He didn’t play in Sunday’s loss to the Houston Texans, but is expected to suit up next week.

On the injury front, the New Orleans Saints placed Ted Ginn Junior on injured reserve with a knee issue that’s caused him to miss the last 2 games. The New York Jets released Terrelle Pryor with a tear in his groin. He’s expected to miss the next two weeks. New York would like to resign him then.

2018 NFL Buckeyes (Week 1)

36 former Ohio State Buckeyes started the 2018 NFL season on opening day rosters. That’s tied with the Miami Hurricanes for 4th in the League.

A popular Silver Bullet from the 2014 National Championship team retired in the offseason. Linebacker Joshua Perry hung up his cleats after suffering his sixth concussion. He now works as an analyst for Spectrum Sports in Columbus. Wide receiver Braxton Miller, formerly of the Houston Texans, is currently a free agent and hoping to catch on with another team this season.

The season started on Thursday Night with the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Atlanta Falcons as they raised their first championship banner. Two-time Super Bowl Champion and All-Pro Malcolm Jenkins made 3 tackles in the 18-12 win for the champs.

Rookie defensive back Denzel Ward had an impressive debut for the Cleveland Browns in his first career start. He got his first interception against the rival Pittsburgh Steelers and picked off Ben Roethlisberger again late in the second quarter as the Steelers were driving with under a minute remaining in the half. Ward finished with 6 tackles (2 solo).

5th year Running back Carlos Hyde made his debut with the Browns and rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. He also caught one pass for 3 yards.

On the Steelers side, 2017 All-Pro defensive tackle Cam Heyward made 5 total tackles and had a sack in the sloppy 21-21 draw.

New Orleans Saints Buckeye quintuplets of Ted Ginn Junior, Michael Thomas, Marshon Lattimore, Vonn Bell and Kurt Coleman hosted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Thomas caught 16 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown. Ginn Junior also caught a touchdown to go along with 5 receptions for 68 yards and 1 rush for 5 yards in a 48-40 surprising loss. On the defensive side, Marshon Lattimore, Vonn Bell and Kurt Coleman each made 3 total tackles.

Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 69 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown in the Dallas Cowboys 8-16 loss to the Carolina Panthers. Zeke also caught 3 passes for 17 yards. Elliott’s backup Rod Smith rushed once for 5 yards and had a tackle on special teams in defeat.

Jerome Baker, Raekwon McMillan of the Miami Dolphins had to sit through two weather delays that caused their game against the Tennessee Titans, which kicked off a 1 PM, to end around 8:15 PM. The rookie Baker made 5 tackles (2 solo) while McMillan, who missed a majority of his rookie season in 2017 due to injury, made 6 tackles (2 solo) in the 27-20 victory.

Tight end Nick Vannett caught an eleven-yard pass for the Seattle Seahawks in their 24-27 defeat to the Denver Broncos. His position counterpart on the other side, Jeff Heuerman also caught one pass for fifteen yards. Cornerback Bradley Roby made 2 tackles in victory.

Eli Apple made 3 tackles and 2 pass defensed for the New York Giants in their 20-15 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

New England Patriots special teams ace Nate Ebner had one tackle in the defending AFC Champions 27-20 win over the Houston Texans.

The Cincinnati Bengals game against the Indianapolis Colts featured rookies Sam Hubbard and Billy Price against 2nd-year safety Malik Hooker, Johnathan Hankins and John Simon of the Colts. Hooker made 4 tackles in the 34-23 loss. Billy Price and Sam Hubbard also saw game action. Yuan Lewis missed the game for Indianapolis with as the team put him on injured reserve with a right foot injury. Chris Worley did not dress for the Bengals.

Darron Lee and Terrelle Pryor of the New York Jets faced off against the Detroit Lions in the Motor City on the first game of the Monday Night Football double header. Lee returned an interception of Matt Stafford 36 yards for a touchdown and picked off a second pass late in the 3rd quarter to go along with 6 tackles. Pryor playing on his 3rd team in 3 seasons caught 3 passes for 49 yards. It was his first game action since his 2017 season ended after only seven games after he tore 3 ligaments in his ankle.

Mike Nugent and Gareon Conley of the Oakland Raiders faced the Los Angeles Rams in the last game of week one. The 14-year kicker scored 7 points on two field goals and an extra point in the Raiders 33-13 loss. Conley made one tackle.

Joey Bosa missed the LA Chargers 38-28 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs with a foot Injury. Bosa has been wearing a walking boot and his status for week 2 is currently questionable.

Offensive Lineman Pat Elflein (Minnesota Vikings), Corey Linsley (Green Bay Packers), Rookie Billy Price (Cincinnati Bengals), Andrew Norwell (Carolina Panthers), Taylor Decker (Detroit Lions) and long snapper Jake McQuaide (Los Angeles Rams) all started for their teams this weekend.

NFL Buckeyes (2017, Week 12)

Week twelve of the 2017 NFL season started with several Buckeye Alumni spending their Thanksgiving Day on the gridiron.

Offensive linemen Taylor Decker of the Detroit Lions and Pat Elflein of the Minnesota Vikings met in the “Motor City” with the Vikings winning 30-23 to improve to a 9-2 record.

In Dallas, Rod Smith rushed 9 times for 41 yards and caught 2 passes for 7 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers. But Joey Bosa and the Chargers took the victory 28-6. Bosa had 4 tackles and several pressures on Dak Prescott. The ‘Boys are 0-3 since Ezekiel Elliot began serving his six-game suspension

Eli Apple was deactivated for the New York Giants 20-10 loss to Washington. It was his second healthy scratch this season. Linebacker Curtis Grant made 2 tackles in a losing effort. Washington wide receiver Terrelle Pryor did not play and has been placed on injured reserved after having surgery on his ankle. He finishes his first season in the Nation’s Capital with 20 catches for 240 yards and 1 touchdown.

Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins made 2 tackles, a tackle for loss and had a pass breakup in a 31-3 win over the Chicago Bears. The Eagles are now 10-1 on the season and have the best record overall in the NFL.

Nate Ebner ran a fake punt for 14 yards and a first down for the New England Patriots in a 35-17 win over the Miami Dolphins. Unfortunately, he injured his knee on the play and missed the rest of the game.

Nick Vannett caught his first career touchdown pass in a 24-13 win over the San Francisco 49ers. He finished the game with 2 catches for 29 yards. Carlos Hyde carried the ball 16 times for 47 yards and caught 7 passes for 21 yards for the Niners.

Johnathan Hankins made 4 tackles and John Simon 1 tackle for the Indianapolis Colts in a 20-16 loss to AFC South division rival Tennessee Titans.

New Orleans Saints receiver’s Mike Thomas caught 5 passes for 52 yards with his longest going for 24 yards and Ted Ginn junior made 7 catches for 71 yards with a long of 25 yards in a 26-20 loss to the LA Rams. Vonn Bell made 11 tackles and a sack in defeat. Rookie cornerback Marshon Lattimore missed his first career game with an injury. The loss ends the Saints 8-game win streak.

Kurt Coleman made 4 tackles for the Carolina Panthers in a 35-27 win over the New York Jets. Darron Lee made 6 tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for loss and 1 QB hit in the loss.

Denver Broncos cornerback Bradley Roby had 3 tackles and a pass breakup in a 21-14 loss to the Oakland Raiders. The Broncos have lost seven consecutive games.

On Sunday Night Football, Buckeyes faced off in the trenches when Green Bay Packers center Corey Linsley faced off with Cam Heyward and Ryan Shazier of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Heyward had a huge night with 2 sacks, 3 hits on the quarterback, 2 tackles for loss and 6 tackles. Shazier led Pittsburgh with 8 tackles and one pass breakup to help the Steelers win 31-28 on a last second field goal. The Steelers are now 9-2 and hold first place in the AFC.

Outside the NFL up north in the 105th Grey Cup, the Canadian Football League’s version of the Super Bowl, Devier Posey caught a 100-yard touchdown pass and finished with 7 catches and 175 yards for the Toronto Argonauts in a 27-24 win over the Calgary Stampeders. He was named Grey Cup MVP.

NFL Buckeyes (2017, Week 11)

Week eleven of the NFL season started with two former Buckeyes leading a dominating defensive performance.

Ryan Shazier made 10 tackles (5 solo) a half tackle for loss and Cam Heyward made 3 tackles, 3 sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss, 3 hits on Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota for the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 40-17 victory over the Titans. The Steelers are now 8-2 and are tied for/have the best record in the AFC.

Michael Thomas caught 6 passes for 91 yards in the New Orleans Saints 34-31 overtime comeback win over Washington. Ted Ginn junior got into the act as well with 6 catches for 87 yards. Vonn Bell led the team with 13 tackles (10 solo), had a sack and a hit on Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins. Marshon Lattimore made no tackles, but had one pass defensed before he had to leave the game with an ankle injury.

Braxton Miller caught 2 passes for 14 yards for the Houston Texans in a 31-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Alex Boone lined up at offensive tackle for the Cards.

Joey Bosa led the way defensively in the most lopsided game of Sunday. The Los Angeles Chargers were up 37-0 at halftime over the Buffalo Bills thanks to Bosa’s constant pressure on the quarterback that forced 5 interceptions. Bosa registered 4 hits on the quarterback, one sack that forced a fumble that was picked up and returned for a touchdown. The Chargers won 54-24. Adolphus Washington had one tackle in defeat.

Bradley Roby made one tackle for the Denver Broncos in a 20-17 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. It was the Broncos sixth consecutive loss. Tight end Jeff Heuerman didn’t catch any passes in the game.

Malcolm Jenkins recorded the 15th interception of his career, 2 passes broken up and 4 tackles (3 solo) for the Philadelphia Eagles in a 37-9 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. In place of the suspended Ezekiel Elliott, Rod Smith carried the ball 8 times for 11 yards. Rookie Noah Brown caught his second one pass for 14 yards; it was the second of his career. Mike Nugent scored the only points for Dallas, making all three of his field goal attempts with his longest being 48 yards.

Nick Vannett played several snaps for the Seattle Seahawks in a 34-31 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Carolina Panthers’ Kurt Coleman and Curtis Samuel, Carlos Hyde with the San Francisco 49ers, New York Jets linebacker Darron Lee, John Simon, Jonathan Hankins, Josh Perry and Malik Hooker of the Indianapolis Colts were on a bye this week.

NFL Buckeyes (2017, Week 8)

Buckeye Nation is still riding on a high after the Silver Bullets pulled off a 15-point 4th quarter comeback against Penn State. Several former Buckeyes, now in the NFL, played as if they were inspired by the huge win.

Coming off arguably his best single game of his young NFL career, Ezekiel Elliott didn’t start so hot in a rivalry game against Washington. “Zeke” fumbled on the Cowboys opening drive that led to a Washington field goal. But like his alma mater, he had no trouble bouncing back. On the next possession he scored on a 13-yard touchdown run to put Dallas up 7-3. He finished the game with 150 rushing yards on 33 carries and one catch for 4 yards in Dallas’ 33-19 win.

Mike Nugent made his debut with the Cowboys making 4 of 5 field goals and connecting on all 3 of his extra point attempts. Terrelle Pryor was targeted once for Washington and finished with no catches.

Joey Bosa made 4 total tackles and a sack for the Los Angeles Chargers in their 13-21 loss to the New England Patriots. With his 8.5 sacks on the season Bosa now has the most sacks in NFL history through his first 20 games

New Orleans Saints leading receiver Michael Thomas caught 7 passes for 77 yards in their 20-12 victory over the Chicago Bears. Ted Ginn Junior caught 2 passes for 68 yards, had 3 punt returns for 22 yards and 1 kickoff return for 9 yards. Rookie Marshon Lattimore collected his second career interception and returned it 25 yards. He also defensed 2 passes and made 3 total tackles. Safety Vonn Bell made 5 tackles (2 solo) to aid the victory.

Malcolm Jenkins made 5 total tackles and had one pass defended to help the Philadelphia Eagles get a 33-10 win over the San Francisco 49ers and move to 7-1 on the season. That’s the best record in the NFL. 49ers running back Carlos Hyde rushed for 25 yards on 12 carries. He also caught 4 passes for 22 yards in defeat.

The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Detroit Lions 20-15 behind their defense led by Ryan Shazier and Cam Heyward. Heyward had a sack, 2 tackles for loss, 2 hits on quarterback Matthew Stafford and 3 tackles, while Shazier made 7 total tackles (6 solo) and one pass defensed. The Steelers are now 6-2 headed into their Bye week.

Kurt Coleman returned to the Carolina Panthers lineup after an injury that kept him out last week and recovered a fumble and made 9 total tackles in a 17-3 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Rookie Curtis Samuel caught 2 passes for 15 yards and rushed once for 11 yards in the victory.

Tight end Nick Vannett played in possibly the game of the year. Vannett caught one pass for 8 yards for the Seattle Seahawks in their 41-38 win over the Houston Texans. Braxton Miller did not register any stats for Houston.

Adolphus Washington had 3 total tackles and one pass defensed for the Buffalo Bills in a 34-14 win over the Oakland Raiders.

Jets linebacker Darron Lee had 5 tackles (4 solo) and a pass defensed in New York’s 25-20 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

John Simon missed the Indianapolis Colts 24-23 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals with a neck injury. Rookie Malik Hooker was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday of last week. Josh Perry and Jonathan Hankins dressed for Indianapolis, but didn’t register any stats.

Bradley Roby had 2 tackles and Jeff Heuerman caught one pass for 11yards for the Denver Broncos in 29-19 loss their AFC West rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.

Eli Apple and Curtis Grant of the New York Giants, Alex Boone of the Arizona Cardinals, the Green Bay Packers Corey Linsley and Michael Bennett of the Jacksonville Jaguars were all on a Bye.

NFL Buckeyes (2017, Week 7)

With the “amateur” Buckeyes on a Bye and preparing for their huge matchup with #2 ranked Penn State, this week the focus for Buckeye Nation was on several former Silver Bullets that had monster days in the NFL.

New Orleans Saints wide receivers Ted Ginn Junior and Michael Thomas had huge days in back in Big Ten country up in Wisconsin against the Green Bay Packers. Ginn caught 7 passes for 141 yards and Thomas caught 7 passes as well for 82 yards to lead the Saints to a 26-17 win over the Packers. Defensively, Vonn Bell made 4 total tackles; while Marshon Lattimore collected 3 total tackles and had one pass defensed in the victory.

Thanks to another court injunction in his favor, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was able to play against the San Francisco 49ers. This comes after a U.S. circuit court in New Orleans ruled to uphold the NFL’s six game suspension of him last week.

As for the game it was never in doubt for Elliott and the ‘Boys. The 2nd-year back carried the ball 26 times for 147 yards and scored 2 touchdowns. He also caught one pass for 72 yards for a touchdown in Dallas’ 40-10 victory.  One of his backups, Rod Smith, rushed 4 times for 50 yards and caught one pass for 5 yards in the win. For the Niners, Carlos Hyde rushed for 68 yards on 14 carries and caught 4 passes for 20 yards in defeat.

The Indianapolis Colts Ohio State trio of Malik Hooker, John Simon and Jonathan Hankins had a day to forget against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The rookie had 2 tackles, but had to leave the game with a knee injury and didn’t return. Simon only had 1 tackle and 1 QB hit and Hankins made 3 total tackles in the 27-0 loss. The Colts are now 2-5 on the season.

It was also a rough day for Rookie Curtis Samuel and his Carolina Panthers teammates. Samuel had a huge drop on a pitch from Cam Newton that resulted in a 75-yard touchdown return for the Chicago Bears. Samuel caught one pass for twenty yards in the 17-3 loss in the Windy City. 8-year safety Kurt Coleman did not play and was inactive for the game due to a knee injury.

Darron Lee registered 11 total tackles (9 solo) and forced a fumble for the New York Jets in their 31-28 loss to the Miami Dolphins in south Florida.

Nate Ebner had one tackle on special teams for the New England Patriots in their 23-7 win over the Atlanta Falcons in a Super Bowl 51 rematch on Sunday Night Football.

Ryan Shazier and Cam Heyward led the defense for the Pittsburgh Steelers in their 29-14 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Shazier led all players with 8 tackles (5 solo) and a tackle for loss, while Heyward made 4 total tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 2 hits on the quarterback and a sack in the victory.

Joey Bosa had 2 sacks and 2 tackles and a pass defended for the Los Angeles Chargers in their 21-0 win over AFC West division rival Denver Broncos. He now has 7.5 sacks on the season. Bradley Roby had 3 total tackles and 2 passes defended in defeat. Tight end Jeff Heuerman didn’t record any stats in the loss.

Eli Apple made 5 tackles (4 solo) and 2 passes defensed and Curtis Grant collected 6 tackles (4 solo) for the New York Giants in a 24-7 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks. Tight end Nick Vanett caught one pass for 12 yards to help Seattle get the victory.

Malcolm Jenkins of the Philadelphia Eagles faced off against Terrelle Pryor Senior and Washington in a NFC East clash on Monday Night Football in the “City of Brotherly Love.” Pryor senior didn’t get into the game  until his team’s third series. Once in the game, he was targeted 4 times and only caught 2 passes for 14 yards. For the Eagles, Malcolm Jenkins led the team with 10 solo tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for loss and a QB hit to lead Philadelphia to the 34-24 win. The Eagles now have the best record in the NFL at 6-1.

Braxton Miller and the Houston Texans were on a Bye this week. So was Taylor Decker of the Detroit Lions. Gareon Conley of the Oakland Raiders missed his fourth consecutive game with a shin injury. The Raiders beat the Kansas City Chiefs in dramatic fashion 31-30 on Thursday Night Football.

NFL Buckeyes (2017, Week 5)

Week five in the NFL started off with great news for a former Buckeye speedster.

The Buffalo Bills signed Corey “Philly” Brown. The 4-year wide receiver last played for the Carolina Panthers last season. He didn’t record any stats in the team’s 20-16 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Defensive tackle Adolphus Washington had 2 tackles for the Bills defeat.

New England Patriots’ special teams ace Nate Ebner made 2 tackles on Thursday Night Football against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also recovered an onside kick with 2:08 in the fourth quarter to preserve the 19-14 victory.

New York Jets 2nd-year linebacker Darron Lee returned to the Buckeye State to face the Cleveland Browns. He recorded 6 tackles (5 solo) for New York in their 17-14 win.

Ezekiel Elliott had 116 yards on 29 carries and caught one pass for 16 yards for the Dallas Cowboys in their 35-31 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Elliott’s former roommate at Ohio State, Joey Bosa, made 6 total tackles, forced a fumble and sacked Eli Manning twice for the LA Chargers in their 27-22 win over the New York Giants. It was their first win of the season while the Giants dropped to 0-5. Eli Apple had 5 solo tackles in a losing effort for the G-Men.

Malik Hooker’s streak of three games with an interception came to an end, but the rookie safety collected 5 tackles to help the Indianapolis Colts move to 2-3 with a 26-23 win over the San Francisco 49ers. John Simon made 4 tackles (3 solo) and Johnathan Hankins had 2 tackles in victory. Carlos Hyde rushed for 11 yards on only 8 carries and caught one pass for 7 yards in a losing effort for the San Francisco 49ers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers duo of Ryan Shazier and Cam Heyward had a rough day at the office. Shazier collected 8 tackles (5 solo) a pass defended and an interception, while Heyward made 2 tackles and had a QB hit in the Steelers 30-9 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Carolina Panthers safety Kurt Coleman had 2 tackles in the Panthers 27-24 win over the Detroit Lions. Rookie Curtis Samuel was targeted twice, but no catches in the victory.

Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins had 4 total tackles and a pass defended to help Philly defeat the Arizona Cardinals 34-7.

Oakland Raiders rookie defensive back Gareon Conley missed his second consecutive game with a shin injury. The injury ridden Raiders lost to the Baltimore Ravens 30-17.

Braxton Miller was inactive for the Houston Texans 42-34 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. This is the second consecutive week he was a healthy scratch.

The New Orleans Saints Buckeye contingent of Michael Thomas, Ted Ginn Junior, Marshon Lattimore and Vonn Bell were on a Bye. Their next game is next Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Bradley Roby, Jeff Heuerman of the Denver Broncos were also on a Bye and will play the New York Giants next Sunday night.
