Week 9 in the NFL for the Buckeye Alums got off to a good start. The Scarlet and Gray played a role in several key victories.
On Thursday night football, kicker Mike Nugent scored 7 points to help the Cincinnati Bengals move to 8-0 by beating the Cleveland Browns 31-10. Nugent made 4 extra points and a 28 yard field goal.
Steelers Safety Will Allen made 4 tackles in his return the Pittsburgh lineup after missing the last three weeks with and ankle injury. His teammate linebacker Ryan Shazier collected 6 tackles and a forced fumble. Defensive lineman Cameron Heyward, fresh off the birth of his son, also made 6 tackles.
Corey “Philly” Brown caught a 2 passes, one of them for a 39-yard touchdown to help the Carolina Panthers move to 8-0 on the season with a 37-29 victory over the Green Bay Packers. Panthers receiver Ted Ginn Junior caught one pass for 20 yards in the win. On the defensive side for Carolina, safety Kurt Coleman had 6 tackles and a sack of Aaron Rodgers.
Linebacker James Laurinaitis had 8 tackles for the St. Louis Rams in their 18-21 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
On Sunday night football, safety Malcolm Jenkins had 9 tackles for the Philadelphia Eagles in their 33-27 overtime victory over the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys had one former Buckeye lineup for them, running back Rod Smith, who is playing on his second team in 2015. He played for the Seattle Seahawks earlier this season when starting running back Marshawn Lynch was out with an injury.
